Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa and among the freshwater lakes of the world it is the second in size after Lake Superior in North America. The lake has got several islands.It has more than 200 species of fish, of which the Tilapia is the most economically important.
At the lake's north-western corner are the 84 islands of the Ssese.The Ssese Islands are an archipelago of eighty-four islands in the northwest of Lake Victoria, Uganda About forty-three of the islands are inhabited. The islands vary in size from less than 10,000 square meters, to over 40 kilometers in length for the largest island, Buggala.

Access to the main island is by ferry which leaves Nakiwogo docking site in Entebbe at 2pm to the Lutoboka landing site in Buggala island or travel by road to Masaka then to Bukakata landing site; where you will take a ferry, and reach the main island.
Buggala and Bukasa are the only islands that receive most tourists on a regular basis. Visitors are able to see a variety of animals here including, monkey, hippo, crocodile and many different types of bird. Other than wildlife viewing, the Ssese Islands are a good place to fish, swim or just lie back in the sun.
